The submissions are being collected using Jotform. The form is encrypted and cannot even be accessed by Jotform. More information is available here. They will also be stored there until editing commences. The Project Director is the only person who has access to the JotForm site and knows the encryption password.
When editing commences these will be downloaded to an external password protected hard-drive in the Project Director's office. The editorial team will not have access to contributor contact details at any stage - these will be removed from submissions and the team will work with names and stories only.
The editorial team are all researchers known to the Project Director, are familiar with ethical processes for research and will work under the Project Director's supervision.
The timeline is a little fluid - it really depends on response to the project. It may take 3 months to get a "book's worth" but it may take longer. We would rather collect stories organically so we are prepared to let the project tick away slowly. The goal is to have 70 stories and as at 29 May 2025 we have 5 since starting earlier this month.
That is a long way of saying - would love to receive stories, no rush, there's a few months at least to submit.
The initial plan is for submissions until 31 August, and selection completed by 30 September, and then into editing etc but this will extend out if needed.
No, it is likely that not every submission will be included in the first edition of the publication. It is important to us that less-often heard voices are featured so we are hoping that contacts will also forward to indigenous, migrant and diverse colleagues whose stories are important to include so that the project reflects a broad range of experiences in the field.
Any unpublished stories would be considered for a future edition if not included in the original publication.
